The Forest Café (Metsäkahvila) invites guests to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature, savor local flavors, and connect with friends or family in a truly special setting.
More than just a café, Forest Café is a destination that seamlessly blends local cuisine, authentic Lappish tastes, and the pure bounty of Finnish nature. Visitors are offered the unique opportunity to prepare their own outdoor meals over crackling open fires, creating an interactive and memorable culinary experience. The adventure is complemented by the chance to unwind in a warm and inviting *laavu* (a traditional Finnish lean-to wilderness shelter), lounge in hammocks, and explore the enchanting surrounding forest. Arrival and Facilities:
The café is easily accessible either via the Kivalo hiking trail or its dedicated service road. For those arriving by car, parking is available at the designated hiking trail area at Kivalontie 1698, 94500 Keminmaa, or in the café's own yard at Kivalontie 1650, 94500 Keminmaa. During the winter months, a scenic 1.5-kilometer forest path leads to Kaljupää-Helkkunen hill, featuring engaging nature-themed activities along its route.
The facilities at Metsäkahvila are thoughtfully designed for comfort and enjoyment. The café area boasts a warm, sheltered *laavu* complete with fireplaces, alongside a covered dining table that accommodates approximately 25 seated guests and about 10 standing. Two smaller campfire spots are equipped with lounge chairs and side tables, perfect for eight people. A larger camp area offers additional seating, blankets, and pillows, complemented by an array of engaging nature-themed activities. From art supplies for capturing the scenic beauty to 'Forest & Meditation' cards for mindful reflection, magnifying glasses for close-up nature exploration, and a selection of nature books, there's something to spark curiosity for all ages. For ultimate relaxation, guests can choose from multiple hammocks, serene forest terraces, or even traditional yurts – perfect spots for unwinding and soaking in the sun or stars.
